Don and his team really went above and beyond to bring my vision to life – I wanted my fat bike powder-coated in a super sparkly finish, and they absolutely nailed it. They were genuinely excited about the project and involved me every step of the way. It was clear they put a lot of care into the work, and I loved seeing their enthusiasm.   “I’ve always appreciated dealing with a family-owned business – it’s just easier to get to know the people and the place. I stopped by three times, initially just to chat and get a sense of the shop, then I brought in my 5 Pontiac wheels from my 1970 Trans Am, which were pretty rough. They were in bad shape, and when I picked them up, everything was great. As someone who’s worked with a lot of shops in Anchorage over the last 45 years, I can honestly say the service at the counter was outstanding – 5 stars. They were incredibly customer-focused and went out of their way to help me with pricing – unlike other places I contacted in town who didn’t return my calls at all.   I’m incredibly disappointed with my recent powder coating experience. I paid $650 for my wheels, and the result is really frustrating. Initially, they ran out of paint and charged me an extra $40 to order more, but they didn’t actually redo the wheel that was missing color. Then, when I finally picked them up, they looked okay in a dark room, but upon closer inspection in normal light, it was clear they’d just added more clear coat to try and match the other wheels – a fix that’s now very noticeable. To make matters worse, I’m already seeing bubbles forming on one of the wheels, likely due to poor prep work on brand new rims. It’s clear they tried to cut corners, and I’m left with three wheels that look good from a distance, but are far from perfect up close. I’m seriously considering just buying new rims – it would have been a better investment than this whole experience. report abuse

  Don Powell is truly remarkable. He has a real gift – he consistently exceeds expectations and leaves everything he works on better than new. I was particularly struck by his confidence and perspective, and I honestly feel he deserves the title of magician!
