How to remove fungus and mold

Reading Time: 2 Minutes

Mold and mildew are common problems that thrive in damp, poorly ventilated, or dimly lit areas — often caused by leaks or water infiltration. These microorganisms can darken paint, damage wall finishes, and pose health risks.

Step-by-Step Guide to Eliminate Mold and Mildew

1 – Let’s Get Started

Before taking any action, it’s crucial to identify and fix the root cause. If mold is due to leaks or humidity, resolve the structural issue before beginning any cleaning. Only then should you proceed with surface treatment.

2 – Gather Your Materials

You’ll need the following:

  • Garden hose or water source
  • Bleach
  • Scrub brush or firm-bristle cleaning brush
  • Protective gloves
  • Face mask (optional but recommended)
  • Plenty of motivation!

3 – Surface Treatment

  • Thoroughly soak the affected area to prevent spores from spreading through the air.
  • Prepare a 1:1 solution of bleach and clean water.
  • Use the brush to apply the solution and scrub the area thoroughly.
  • Rinse well with plenty of water to remove all residue.

4 – Reapply and Dry

  • Repeat the process if necessary, until all signs of mold and mildew are gone.
  • Wait for the surface to dry completely. In enclosed or poorly ventilated areas, this may take longer.

5 – Finishing Up

  • Once fully dry, apply a new coat of paint using high-quality materials.
  • Choose products with anti-mold, anti-mildew, and antibacterial protection for longer-lasting results.
