“I hired Northwood Homes and Tom Herron to build my Ritzcraft home, and unfortunately, things quickly went wrong once they started digging the basement. Tom and Northwood Homes are located in Cass City, while I live in Leonard, where the house is being built. Early on, Tom had an excavator come in from around here and they hit water just five feet down. This was completely unexpected, as all the wells in this area are much deeper, around 100 feet. Tom and I argued repeatedly, and it was incredibly frustrating because I was caring for my 95-year-old father and I'm 70 myself. Despite the clear issue, nothing was done. The house was built four feet above ground level, which was a problem for me, as I was moving from a colonial house and now had to climb five steps to get into the ranch-style home. With my already weak knees – I had a knee replacement just a year ago – those steps are agony, and I end up yelling at Tom every time. Adding to the problems, the sump pump rotted out from lack of use, likely because of the water issue. Tom never questioned the excavator, even though he’d never worked with them before. Ultimately, I had to sue Northwood Homes and Tom, and thankfully, I won. However, the company has since been sold because Tom retired after the lawsuit.”

“Overall, we really loved the design of the Ritza-Craft house. However, the assembly crew unfortunately caused significant damage to the flooring, tearing and cracking the vinyl extensively. We ended up having to replace the entire floor, and while we were promised a credit, we weren’t given anything in writing, which was frustrating. To make matters worse, Tom at Northwood Modular completely dismissed our concerns and failed to fulfill his responsibilities.”
