I would strongly advise against signing a contract with Browning Pools. My experience was incredibly disappointing. They initially presented a friendly, family-oriented approach, but once it came time to make the final payment, their attitude completely changed. Any concerns we raised about issues or problems were dismissed, and they quickly escalated into arguments. Furthermore, they charged us $120 an hour for what seemed like routine warranty work, and they essentially told us cracking and concrete problems were “normal.” To make matters worse, they left our yard in a complete mess. Seriously, protect yourself – if you’re considering hiring them, ensure your landscaping and decking warranties cover more than six months. Find a different contractor; you’ll thank me later.

Overall, the replacement of the vinyl liner and steps on our pool (originally installed by Browning in 2002) was a positive experience, though there were a few areas where things could have been smoother. The new liner and steps look fantastic – they’re both high quality and fit perfectly, and we’re confident they’ll last for many years to come. The concrete work itself was really well done. However, we did have a couple of minor issues. The new concrete around the steps isn't quite a match to the original deck, which wasn’t brought to our attention beforehand, and a small amount of old concrete ended up in one of our plant beds. Also, one of the workmen disassembled an electrical box near the pool and didn't reassemble it before leaving. Finally, we occasionally received very short notice about the work being scheduled, sometimes just the same day or the next day. It would have been helpful to have more advance warning. On a slightly larger note, we also felt that paying by check was a bit outdated—options like short-term financing for pool repairs would be a welcome improvement.

Honestly, our experience with Browning’s Frederick location has been incredibly frustrating. We purchased our hot tub there seven years ago, and while they did handle the delivery and installation, we’ve had a string of problems ever since. Initially, we battled constantly with keeping the water balanced and clean, trying multiple chemical systems that cost us a fortune. Then, after three years, we discovered a leak in the plumbing – and bafflingly, the ozonator, which should have been addressing the cleanliness issue, was never activated during the original installation. More recently, we needed a new filter cover, and the staff at the Frederick office were completely unhelpful. The older lady was consistently rude and dismissive, and she insisted we needed to order it from the Germantown store despite our clear instructions. It took us three weeks to get the part, and they still haven't contacted us. It’s completely unacceptable for a company specializing in pools and tubs to make such basic errors. Because of the poor service and lack of attention to detail, we’ve taken our business elsewhere and would strongly advise against using Browning’s for any pool or spa needs.

We absolutely loved working with Browning Pools – it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Chuck, the designer, is truly passionate about what he does, and you can really see that in the beautiful pool he created for us. We specifically wanted a free-form look, but with the practicality of a rectangle so we could get a retractable cover for safety, and he nailed it! He even incorporated a wonderful shallow area with a water feature for the grandkids, complete with fantastic bubble rocks that the kids just adore – it can spray high or go low depending on how we like it. Honestly, everyone, from kids to adults, loves it. And we can’t forget Tim Hanold, our project manager. He was fantastic – always on top of everything, really easy to talk to, and incredibly professional. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Browning Pools to anyone looking to build a beautiful pool to enjoy with family and friends. We’re absolutely thrilled with our new pool!

Christopher and Tim from Browning were fantastic to work with on the lighting renovation for the fountain. They were incredibly knowledgeable and really brought a professional approach to the project.

“Browning did a fantastic job replacing my pool liner and heater! They were really professional and got the job done quickly – started on time and completed in just a few days. Now my pool looks absolutely brand new!”

Honestly, I had a really frustrating experience with this team. They came to our home several times, but consistently gave us inaccurate information and inflated promises about our project. The final quote was over $100,000 higher than what we were initially told. To add to that, they were incredibly unresponsive, missed the deadlines we’d agreed upon, and were just generally difficult to deal with. I wouldn’t recommend them.

“I’m really pleased with the Marquis Spa – it’s fantastic! Ryan Saunders was a huge help. I’m still waiting for them to send someone out to look at a couple of small problems, and I believe they should be covered under warranty, but I’m hoping they’ll get that sorted out for me soon.”

I’ve been incredibly frustrated with the lack of communication. I initially spoke with Dave and got some basic information, but then I followed up to discuss getting a quote for an in-ground pool. I’ve called eight times over the past month, always leaving my name and number, but I’ve never received a return call. It’s really disappointing that despite my repeated attempts to connect, no one has bothered to contact me. The fact that they only have my name and not my phone number is a serious issue of disorganization, and I’m regrettably going to take my business elsewhere.

“Overall, the design and installation of our new saltwater pool and spa – a $100,000 project – were fantastic, and we truly appreciated the owners and their company culture. However, our experience with the service department was extremely disappointing. We were on a weekly executive service package for a year, costing $680 a month, and unfortunately, things quickly went downhill. The service manager wasn't particularly customer-focused, leading to a series of issues including missed appointments, a bacterial infection in our daughter’s pool, inaccurate information, and frequent denials of service requests. Despite bringing these problems to the owners' attention, there was no intervention, and the issues persisted throughout the entire year. It’s clear that a significant change is needed within the service department, and we wish the owners had taken a more proactive role in addressing our concerns.”
