We absolutely loved our new solatubes – they’ve completely transformed our kitchen! We initially just wanted one, but the impact was so great we ended up installing four more, and we’re considering adding even more in the future. The solar-powered night lights built into the tubes are a fantastic bonus. Ken, who did the installation, was fantastic – a really professional and skilled tradesman. We wholeheartedly recommend Acorn Fine Homes; they’re a top-notch company.

Overall, the experience with Les was significantly more challenging than anticipated. While the house is nearing completion, there were some serious issues that impacted the timeline and cost. Originally, Les estimated the build would take around 12 months, but it ultimately stretched to almost 19 months. This delay resulted in an additional $23,000 in closing costs and $10,000 in construction loan fees. Even now, at 13 months post-closing, Les is still working through the punch list items. Adding to the problems, communication was a real challenge. The reliance on webcam job site supervision felt like a poor substitute for regular, in-person oversight, and I believe this contributed to the schedule delays. Frankly, Les’s contract doesn’t hold him accountable for delays, it’s full of excuses. If you're looking for a straightforward, budget-friendly build under $500,000, he might be a good fit. However, for a custom home with a higher-end finish, I’d suggest exploring other builders in the area. “There were some significant concerns raised regarding this project. Communication was consistently a problem, and it seemed like responsibility was frequently shifted onto the contractors. Additionally, the project appeared to prioritize cost savings above quality, with a tendency to use the most inexpensive materials available.”

“It’s been a really frustrating experience. We ended up having to pursue legal action to deal with the builder, and even a year later, we’re still dealing with the consequences of his work.”
