Honestly, I was really disappointed with my experience working with this structural engineering firm. They certainly delivered on the technical work, but the service was incredibly lacking. Gerard, who seems to be running things, is partially retired, and it really impacted the entire process. Darrell, his employee, was incredibly dismissive from the start – blasting loud music on our property and making us feel like we were bothering him with our questions. He even got frustrated when we asked for clarification, which delayed his schedule. It took multiple follow-up calls before they finally got around to finishing the report, and the whole experience felt incredibly slow and disrespectful.

“Gerard is an incredibly reliable and knowledgeable professional. He’s very cautious and realistic about the health of a home’s structure and foundation, and he takes the time to explain things in a way that’s easy to understand. We’ve been working with him for 15 years and he’s truly helped us keep our home in great shape and prevent costly repairs – we wholeheartedly recommend him.”

“I was really impressed with Mr. Duhon’s thoroughness. He took the time to explain the structural issues with our home and provided a clear report outlining the necessary steps to protect our roof. He even suggested grading the yard to help with water drainage around the crawlspace – a really thoughtful recommendation for our 1934 bungalow. I wholeheartedly recommend Houston Structural Engineering Services.”

“I was extremely disappointed with this company. I took a day off work specifically for this appointment, and they completely failed to show up. What was even more frustrating was their attempt to shift the blame instead of simply acknowledging their mistake. I wouldn’t recommend them – I can’t trust them to follow through.”

Here’s a natural-sounding evaluation based on the text: “I had some serious concerns about this firm. From the start, it felt a bit strange – my colleague, Darrell, refused to give me an evaluation price until I provided my exact subdivision, despite me giving him the city. It felt like a deliberate attempt to create a barrier. They were incredibly charming and skilled salespeople, which was actually quite unsettling. It became clear they were trying to get under my skin. When Gerard casually mentioned Darrell thought I was “the big fish,” it raised even more red flags. I made it clear I’d be getting multiple opinions and would use an independent firm for the actual repairs to ensure objectivity. But as soon as I stated that, they immediately played the wounded trust card. Ultimately, they pulled back, and we didn’t proceed. Honestly, I found their tactics manipulative and felt they were trying to leverage my hesitancy. I’d advise anyone considering them to be very cautious – if you were treated that way, would you really want to work with them? Two stars simply because the exchanges themselves were polite, but the whole situation felt incredibly uncomfortable.”

“Gerard and Darrell did a really thorough job inspecting the foundation of my house. They were straightforward, professional, and offered a fair price. I especially appreciated how communicative they were – they kept me updated on everything, were punctual with scheduling, and clearly explained the recommended work.”

“Gerard was fantastic – really knowledgeable and he got back to me so quickly when I had my questions. The report he provided was incredibly helpful, and I wholeheartedly recommend him if you’re looking for a structural engineer for your home.”

Gerald was fantastic – he really took the time to understand the project and provided a detailed topographical map of the existing slab, which was incredibly helpful. I was able to use that map to compare his estimates with the other bids I received, and it turned out four of the other companies hadn’t done their homework because they couldn’t verify his assessment. He was a little more expensive than I’d budgeted for, and he primarily communicated via email, which took some getting used to, but he responded to my initial inquiry very quickly. Honestly, the extra cost was absolutely worth it – it saved me from having to install unnecessary interior piers, which I’d heard horror stories about. It was a huge relief not to have to deal with a jackhammer inside my house and the resulting mess!

“I recently used this company for a flooring inspection to ensure it could handle a saltwater aquarium with custom cabinets, and I was incredibly pleased with their service. Mr. Duhon was exceptionally thorough and delivered the results quickly and professionally. He was also incredibly punctual – which I really appreciated!”

“We were in a bit of a rush to buy a house and our lender required an engineer’s report on the foundation. Thankfully, we found Gerard Duhon online and he responded really quickly to our request. He was able to get the report done within our tight timeframe and his associate was also very professional and friendly during the property visit. The whole process was well-communicated via email, which made everything so easy. We’d definitely recommend Gerard and would absolutely use his services again if we ever needed a similar report.”
