Overall, this is definitely the best place to go when you need to buy building materials. They consistently have a good selection and seem to understand what customers are looking for.

Brad was incredibly difficult to work with, and unfortunately, he significantly impacted my project. I tried repeatedly to get in touch with him to discuss the orders, but he was consistently unresponsive, sending lengthy, confusing documents that left me completely lost. He ended up ordering a mismatched assortment of windows, creating a very awkward and unprofessional look in my home. Because of his lack of communication and patience, I ended up paying double for some materials that could have been easily avoided if he’d taken the time to explain things properly. Considering the work I’d done with National Lumber – around $50,000 – I wouldn’t want to work with him again. I’ll be contacting National Lumber management to discuss this and will be posting an update.

Honestly, my experience at National Lumber in Newton was pretty frustrating. I went there to get some quotes for a patio door, and it felt like a complete waste of time. I spoke with a few different people, but no one seemed to actually know anything about the different door options or what I was looking for – specifically, a door with a low U-factor. They just took down my measurements and promised to get a quote, but I left without any real information or a clear understanding of my choices. It was like they weren't invested in helping me find the right door.

“The customer service here was truly outstanding – a fantastic experience!”

“This store really stood out – the quality of the materials, especially the lumber, was noticeably better than what you’d find at a big box store. It’s a fantastic place to go if you’re looking for something particular and can’t find it elsewhere. Plus, the staff were incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely helpful!”

“This place is fantastic! The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and really friendly – they were so helpful. It’s a real hidden gem in the area. They also have a pro shop, which can get a little busy, but if you go at the right time, you can easily get right up to the counter.”

Paul was a really helpful and patient customer – he took the time to clearly explain all the different paint colors and sheens to me. He was so thoughtful to send me home with color charts so I could really see how they’d look in my space, and he even recommended some cleaning products to prep the walls.

I just wanted to share how fantastic my experience was today filling my propane tanks at National Lumber. The woman at the paint counter was so helpful and patient, and then Andre went above and beyond to bring the tanks to my car – he was genuinely friendly and made the whole process really pleasant for my daughter and me. I’ll definitely be returning to National Lumber from now on; it was such a positive experience, I’ll be recommending it to everyone I know, especially in my work with patients in the Newton Wellesley area.

“I was really disappointed with the customer service I received. I waited in line for a significant amount of time – about 10 minutes – while an employee finished helping another customer. He seemed completely aware I was waiting and staring at me. Then, as he ended the call, he immediately turned to assist another customer without acknowledging me, which felt incredibly rude and unfriendly.”

I had a really disappointing experience at this store. I was just visiting from out of town and needed a specific piece of wood, but the employee I spoke with was incredibly rude and unhelpful. With my twelve years of woodworking experience, I found his dismissive attitude and lack of assistance completely unacceptable. He basically brushed me off and pointed me in a direction without any real guidance. Sadly, I won’t be returning, and the prices don’t seem to match the quality of the materials they offer.
