  “We were absolutely thrilled with the work Geoff and his team at Madroño did for us. Our backyard was a complete mess – overrun with blackberries and vines – and they completely transformed it into a stunning, terraced garden. They built a beautiful hardwood deck and stairs, added lovely fences, and expertly terraced the sloping land into separate, connected areas. The retaining walls were fantastic, creating a really practical and level space. From the very beginning, Geoff was incredibly detail-oriented, making sure everything was properly marked and designed to fit our property perfectly. He really listened to our concerns about cost, and we especially appreciated his knowledge about creating a low-maintenance garden. He recommended fantastic native plants, including a local grass that needs hardly any water – it’s been a lifesaver! When we ran into a few unexpected challenges, like aligning the deck with the house, Geoff tackled them head-on and did a brilliant job, even pouring cement to make it all seamless. He’s also incredibly approachable and committed to doing a top-notch job. The garden looks amazing, it’s so much more usable, and it’s even boosted the value of our home. But beyond his skills, Geoff is just a genuinely kind and wonderful person to work with – he has an amazing knowledge of Bay Area plants, having even owned a native plant nursery and published articles on the subject.   “I couldn’t be happier with the work Geoffrey and his team did on my back patio. We had a really serious drainage issue during a recent storm, with the small patio drain completely backing up and flooding my basement. Geoffrey quickly assessed the situation and proposed a fantastic, comprehensive solution – completely redesigning the drainage system with a large channel drain running along the house, installing a new gutter for the shed, and adjusting the paver slope to stop any water from pooling. What really impressed me was that they finished the job on time and within budget, even while I was out of the country for most of the work! The final result is absolutely beautiful, incredibly clean, and, most importantly, the drainage problem is completely gone.   “We absolutely loved what Madroño did for our front yard in 2022 – the waterfall, koi pond, landscaping, and lighting really transformed it. So impressed, we asked them to tackle a much bigger project in our back yard, which was previously a neglected, sloping space. They completely revitalized it, replacing old, crumbling retaining walls with beautiful, professionally engineered ones, and added stunning perimeter fencing, paths, and landscape lighting.   Overall, I couldn't be happier with the work Madrono Landscape Design did for my backyard. I’d been dreaming of a really special, secluded garden space, and Geoffrey Coffey really listened to my vision – I wanted a lush, almost jungle-like feel. I invested in a quality landscape, and it definitely shows. Geoff was fantastic at translating my ideas into a beautiful design, incorporating my existing plants and even suggesting a fantastic drip irrigation system.   Overall, we were extremely pleased with the work Madrono Landscape Design did transforming the Miraloma Park Improvement Club’s native plant garden. Geoff was fantastic – he really listened to our needs and budget concerns, meeting with us regularly at the site to discuss everything in detail. He put together a really thorough contract and detailed plans for the project, including site grading, drainage, and planting layouts. The crew, led by Daniel, was also incredibly professional and hardworking. We especially appreciated how they tackled the challenging conditions of the soil. They did a fantastic job installing the drainage, crushed gravel path, and walking path, and they went above and beyond by removing the old pavers and creatively redirecting rainwater. Plus, their work clearing out the old vegetation and trimming the trees really opened up the space. Finally, Geoff’s help with selecting plants for the educational signage was a great finishing touch. We’re thrilled with the beautiful results! report abuse

It was a really complex project – dealing with a neighbor, a significant retaining wall, and some serious structural engineering – but the final result completely exceeded my expectations. There were a few challenges along the way, but Geoffrey and his team handled everything so professionally. Not only did they successfully replace my old, failing retaining wall, but they also created a gorgeous California native garden and dramatically increased the usable space in my yard.
