“This place has a really rich legacy – it’s been a hub for developing incredible athletes. For years, swimmers and divers from all over the Bay Area have trained here, with many going on to represent our country on the Olympic stage.” report abuse

Overall, this is a really positive experience – the pool itself and the coaches are fantastic. My only concern was the changing rooms; they felt a little cramped considering the number of students and serious swimmers using the pool at the same time. They were very clever with the bubble to protect the younger children from the weather during the “learn to swim” sessions, and thankfully, the more advanced swimmers had access to a larger pool where the bubble wasn’t needed. report abuse

“It was amazing – the pool was absolutely huge! I really enjoyed watching my sister have a blast diving around. And it was fantastic how clean it was.” report abuse

  • Danielle Hauck

I’m incredibly disappointed to see the state of the swim center – I’ve spent countless summers there growing up and even was part of the dive team as a kid. It’s heartbreaking to see this once-amazing facility, especially considering it hosted Michael Phelps, fall into such disrepair. As a taxpayer, I’m questioning how my money is being used, particularly when we need a safe and enjoyable place for the community to cool off during the hot summer months. I urge the city council to prioritize these necessary repairs and invest in our community’s well-being. report abuse

“It’s a lovely, established place that’s been really well maintained considering its age. Parking can be a bit tricky, but there are plenty of restaurants nearby if you’re looking for a change of scenery.” report abuse

  • Long Wu

“The pool area itself was pretty quiet, mostly just surrounded by residential houses. Parking was also a bit of a challenge – not nearly enough for the number of people there.” report abuse

“I recently visited the Santa Clara Swim School – and unfortunately, I had a few concerns about the facility. The heater was constantly malfunctioning, the concrete around the pool was cracked, the hot water in the showers wasn’t working reliably, and overall, the place just didn’t feel entirely safe.” report abuse

Overall, this swim center has some definite pros and cons. It’s a bit unusual to find a facility like this tucked away in a residential area, and parking was really tricky – we barely found a spot even when we arrived early. We were there for a swim meet, and it was frustrating that the meet sheet only told us not to park at the library without clarifying if that rule applied every day. The pool itself has a good mix of features – a diving well with a tower, a 50-meter competition pool, and a 25-yard pool where they were running swim school at the time. However, the facility feels a little dated, with cramped locker rooms and older outbuildings for the restrooms. The good news is that the spectator area is surprisingly spacious, and the overhanging shade structure was a really welcome addition. report abuse

“Overall, the Santa Clara Swim Club is a fantastic option for swimming lessons in the Bay Area, especially given its location at the George F. Haines International Swim Center. It’s great to see they’ve returned to full operation and activity levels after the pandemic. However, the club could really benefit from some upgrades to meet modern standards, and the frequent issues with the heating system are definitely a drawback – it’s causing disruptions to the class schedules.” report abuse

  • Serhiy Brytskyy

Overall, this pool has some definite strengths, being the only one with a 50-meter lane – which was a big plus. However, it’s really showing its age and needs significant renovation. There were some practical issues too, like the lack of lockers and the showers having problems for over a month. The biggest drawback, though, was the consistently crowded conditions, especially with families and group workouts. The lap swimming schedule was quite inconvenient with those early morning and late evening slots, and unfortunately, lanes were frequently cancelled at the last minute. report abuse
