  Overall, Black Dog and their team did a fantastic job finishing our basement, and we’re really happy with the result. Our initial experience with Dan was excellent – he was incredibly knowledgeable and really helped us design the perfect layout. However, looking back two years later, there were some significant challenges we faced. We were working near the top of our budget, and while Black Dog clearly communicated this upfront, they ultimately removed their designer to save money, which seems to have created a domino effect of communication issues. For example, there was a major miscommunication about the basement floor – we were initially told only a third needed leveling, but the flooring contractor discovered the entire floor was uneven, leading to unexpected costs. Adding to this, they cut into the block wall for a crawl space access that wasn't required by code, and we ended up paying for that work anyway. And sadly, the project manager was new and struggled with consistent communication, frequently missing deadlines, ignoring our instructions, and offering excuses instead of solutions. We had to constantly step in to ensure the work was done correctly, which was incredibly frustrating. Despite the positives, the lack of consistent oversight and communication ultimately detracted from the project. report abuse

  I wholeheartedly recommend Black Dog – they were absolutely fantastic to work with. As a first-time homeowner going through a remodel, I was really nervous, but Dan and Nick immediately put me at ease. I knew from our first meeting that I’d found the right team. The quality of their work on my kitchen and bathroom was superb, and what really stood out was their honesty and trustworthiness. They were just lovely people to have around. Despite some unexpected challenges with my old house, they finished the project ahead of schedule – a huge relief!   “We couldn’t be happier with our kitchen remodel done by Black Dog Homes – we’d absolutely recommend them! As artists, we had some specific design ideas in mind, and they really listened and incorporated them beautifully, while also offering some fantastic practical suggestions that’s made our kitchen so much more functional and lovely. They even suggested moving our laundry room upstairs, which was a brilliant idea! From the very beginning, they were completely transparent with us about the costs and the process, keeping us updated every step of the way. Communication was fantastic, and our project manager, Jordan Pastor, was especially helpful – he went above and beyond when our chosen range was delayed, finding us a great replacement and handling everything perfectly.
