I’m incredibly frustrated with the whole experience after this incident. I was driving south on a two-lane road with Knife River doing construction when a large rock fell off one of their trucks and smashed my windshield. I immediately contacted them and left a message. They sent over an incident report, but ultimately denied my claim because I didn’t take a picture of the truck or its license plate. Honestly, it seems completely unreasonable to expect someone to pull over in the middle of traffic, chase down a gravel truck, and take pictures while trying to safely turn around! It felt incredibly unsafe and I’m left wondering how I could have possibly done that. While I have insurance, it’s just not fair that my windshield needed replacing because of Knife River’s negligence, and I expected them to cover my deductible.

I’m really disappointed with Knife River’s traffic control at this construction site. I’ve encountered this issue three times now in the Bemidji area, and it’s incredibly frustrating. On each occasion, there were flaggers present but no clear direction or communication. The last time, I waited five minutes at a stop sign with seven workers there, and they completely ignored me. It felt like they weren't paying attention and had no idea what to do. It’s unacceptable that they didn't communicate with me, and the only response I got was a simple “I’m sorry.” Honestly, it’s concerning that they seem to be struggling with proper traffic control, and I would advise anyone approaching a construction site with Knife River working on it to proceed with caution – they don't seem to be monitoring their flaggers effectively.

I was really frustrated – I called them because they had a sign up advertising open positions, but I was told they weren’t hiring. To add to that, they never followed up on the voicemail I left.
