  Mario did a good job getting started on the Hardie-board siding project, especially after the initial contractor left things unfinished. However, things quickly went downhill after our first meeting. He suggested we redo 40% of the already completed siding, arguing it would look much better – specifically, that he wanted larger gaps. When I questioned this, it became clear the work was inconsistent, with different crews showing up and producing vastly different results, from huge gaps to no gaps at all, all on the same side of the building. Ultimately, we ended up having to hire another company to fix the front-facing portion of the siding, which was quite expensive. Adding to the problems, Mario didn’t install flashing tape under the corner trim despite my repeated requests, and we later found out he’d been lying about having done it. Eventually, the fourth crew just stopped responding. I tried to reach him to resolve the issues, but he was unresponsive. We then had to spend time getting him to remove his equipment from the site. Thankfully, the new crew we hired was fantastic – incredibly professional and did a truly excellent job. report abuse

  We were absolutely thrilled with the work Southern Maine Builders did on the new house across the street – it was amazing to see how quickly they made progress. When we decided to upgrade our windows and siding, we contacted them, and we were really pleased with their fair estimate. They were even able to start the project sooner than the other companies we got bids from, which was fantastic. The crew was incredibly respectful and efficient, and despite all the rainy weather, they managed to finish the job on time. We absolutely love the new look of our home!   “I can’t recommend Southern Maine Builders highly enough. They were absolutely amazing when my mom had a fall and needed a wheelchair ramp. From the very first call – I reached out at 7am and they were there within an hour – Mario and Reuben took the time to understand our needs and concerns. They even completely rearranged their schedule to accommodate us, which was incredibly thoughtful. The ramp itself is fantastic, built to a standard that’s solid and seamlessly integrated into our home. It’s clear they put a lot of care and expertise into their work.   “I was really pleased with the initial responsiveness – they quickly replied to my email and someone even came to the house a couple of days later to assess the space. However, things quickly went downhill after that. Despite taking photos inside our home, we were given a vague promise of an estimate by Friday, which then just disappeared. I tried contacting them repeatedly – phone calls, emails, voicemails – but received absolutely no response. It felt incredibly unprofessional to be ignored after they’d already been in my house. Honestly, the complete lack of communication after weeks of silence left me extremely concerned about the project’s progress and whether they’d even follow through. I’m so grateful I found a company that’s upfront about timelines, even if it means a longer process.” report abuse
