Honestly, this was one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve ever had with a service company. I called to book a chimney sweep and the initial woman on the phone was lovely and scheduled an appointment for Thursday. But then things went completely sideways. The owner called me back, immediately started questioning my location – asking if I even lived in Maryland because of my New Jersey cell phone number, even though I’d given him my address and said I was in Annapolis. It felt incredibly dismissive and disrespectful. Then, they canceled the appointment without any notice, blaming it on a little snow, and refused to follow up. They only contacted me on my New Jersey number, completely ignoring my Maryland address and long-standing residency. It was unbelievably unprofessional and made me feel like a valued customer wasn’t even considered. I wouldn’t recommend this company – the owner’s approach was baffling and frankly, unacceptable.

“I was really pleased with the service we received from A Step in Time Maryland. Mike, the owner, was incredibly responsive – he got out to give an estimate the very next day and the masonry work started immediately after. The inside furnace work was completed quickly, and everything was done with a real sense of professionalism and at a fair price. Mike has a fantastic, energetic personality; some people might find it a little intense, but I personally found him to be enthusiastic and genuinely committed to doing a great job. I’ll definitely be using them again for any future chimney needs – thanks, Mike and the team!”

“I couldn’t be happier with the service I received! Finding a reliable contractor can be a real challenge, but this company was fantastic. They were incredibly punctual, incredibly professional, and finished the job quickly and efficiently. I’m so pleased I found them and would definitely recommend them to anyone – I’ll be sure to refer my friends and family!”

I had some cracks in my fireplace floor and contacted A Step In Time for an estimate. From start to finish, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Renee was fantastic – so helpful, accommodating of my schedule, and really easy to work with. Michael then came out quickly to inspect the fireplace, he was incredibly knowledgeable, explained everything clearly, and provided a detailed estimate that included replacing the chase cover, cleaning and painting the cap, and even a new concrete floor – he even threw in cleaning my dryer vent! Dave followed up quickly to measure the chase cover, and thankfully, the materials arrived within a week. Dave then did an amazing job, completely transforming the area. He was a really hard worker, meticulous in his work, and a pleasure to have around. He replaced the entire fireplace floor, installed the new chase cover, painted it perfectly, and took care of all the little details. I'm absolutely thrilled with the quality of the work and the price – I'm so satisfied with A Step In Time and would definitely recommend them to anyone!

“This was a really frustrating experience. I scheduled an inspection for August 17th, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I requested a reschedule to August 15th. I spoke with Michael and we agreed he’d call me at 8:00 am the next day to confirm. Despite several attempts to reach him, he never checked his schedule and ultimately didn’t show up. Then, on August 17th, he called at 8:49 am to say he was on his way, but I missed the call and called him back at 8:58 am – and now he’s claiming he won’t be coming. It’s unbelievable that they give a two-hour window for the inspection and then can't accommodate a quick callback within nine minutes. Honestly, I strongly recommend looking for another company to handle your structural needs.”

Okay, here’s a natural-sounding evaluation based on that text: “I unfortunately wasn’t happy with my experience. The initial appointment was canceled due to an unexpected emergency, which I understood. However, the second appointment was significantly delayed – he arrived 30-40 minutes late, and it was clear he was very rushed. I also felt a bit pressured by the owner; he came across as quite intense and insistent, almost as if he’d had a huge amount of caffeine. While he did seem knowledgeable, his response when I mentioned looking at other quotes was really frustrating. He essentially dismissed me, saying he wasn’t the right fit and that his schedule was incredibly demanding. Ultimately, I didn’t feel comfortable working with him, and I decided to move on.”

Mike was fantastic – he really went above and beyond to get a good understanding of my chimney and pellet stove situation. He asked really thorough questions about the age of the system, the materials it was made of, and how I was using it. We agreed that it was best to reschedule the cleaning for the fall, and he even sent a friendly reminder call the day before my appointment, which was a really nice touch.

“I couldn’t be happier with Mike and his team. They were incredibly responsive and, frankly, the best we’ve worked with. We got a second estimate, and it was significantly lower than the first, but what really impressed us was the extra care and attention they’ve provided over the last four months. They truly stand behind their work – just today, after that time had passed, they quickly diagnosed and resolved a problem with our chimney. It’s clear they’re committed to their customers, and I highly recommend them.”
-
Mike was fantastic – he really came in and got right to work, and his professionalism was outstanding. He took the time to carefully document everything with those photos he took of the roof, and he explained everything so thoroughly, answering all my questions with such knowledge and passion for safety. It was clear he really cared about getting the job done right. Thank you both, Mike and A Step in Time Maryland LLC, for the thorough review today – we’re really looking forward to having our fireplace repaired, cleaned, and made safe for our family!

“I’m incredibly disappointed with this company’s service. We scheduled an inspection, confirmed it twice, but the owner simply drove by our house, called my phone without ringing the doorbell, and left because he said it ‘looked like no one was home.’ He essentially abandoned the appointment. His dismissive and unprofessional behavior – including making excuses instead of addressing the missed appointment – was really concerning. It felt like a completely unrealistic approach to business, and it certainly wasn’t a positive first impression. We’ll be seeking services from a different company.”
