“My experience with GBI was absolutely terrible – I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. From the start, the blonde employee was incredibly unprofessional; she was constantly dozing off and struggled to communicate clearly, becoming increasingly rude. When I gently pointed this out, she responded with insults and even threatened to involve her family’s ownership in the business. Honestly, it was a really shocking start. Beyond that, the crew seemed completely disorganized, and their prices were far too high. After that initial interaction, I decided to go with another contractor based on the quality of their work – I saw firsthand the garage they built for a neighbor, and it was shockingly poor quality. To be honest, I would have gotten a better result if my 10-year-old nephew and his friends had done the job!”

“We hired GBI in April 2018 with a detailed plan finalized by December, and we’d put down a substantial deposit. They assured us we’d be moved into our new home by June 2019, and we worked closely with Leah throughout the process. However, things quickly went wrong. Leah became unresponsive to our questions about when the plans would be ready, and we were repeatedly told it was due to someone else in the company not having reviewed them. We tried repeatedly to speak with the owner, but our requests were consistently ignored. By May, the plans were still incomplete, and finally speaking with the owner, Lou, he acknowledged mistakes had been made and promised improved communication. Despite this, they still assured us we could move in by the end of summer. Unfortunately, when they submitted the paperwork for permits in June, they made a critical error and forgot the necessary documents. When we contacted the owner to express our concerns, he advised us to simply stop working with them. We reluctantly gave them another chance to correct the issue, but they missed the deadline again. Ultimately, we decided to move on in August. Overall, our experience with GBI was incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. Their lack of communication and disorganization made the entire process a nightmare, and I would strongly recommend anyone considering a modular home to seek out a different builder.”

“We’ve been incredibly frustrated dealing with Leah and GBI/Avis for over a year, and ultimately had to cancel our contract. It’s been a truly awful experience, and we felt it was important to share our story. It started when we put down a $2,000 deposit on our dream home back in December, with a crucial condition – we needed to be in the house within eight months of getting our building loan. They confidently told us to expect to be in by the end of June, but nothing happened. Now it’s August, and they still hadn’t even secured the necessary permits. We’d repeatedly provided them with all the information they needed to navigate the town meeting process, a month and a half ago, but they completely ignored us. Even meeting with the owner, Lewis, felt dismissive. Adding to the problem, they failed to submit our building plans to PBS, the company building the modular portion of our home, so the agreed-upon price wasn't honored, and the final cost went up by $25,000. We were forced to make significant cuts to our home just to make it buildable. Throughout the entire process, everything felt incredibly disorganized and the staff was consistently unprofessional. The biggest issue stemmed from March and April when our architectural drawings were simply left sitting on someone’s desk, untouched, for two months – it wasn't until my wife called to inquire that anything was finally done. Honestly, if you're considering building a modular home, we strongly advise against using GBI/Avis.”

Overall, our experience with GBI was incredibly frustrating. The office staff were friendly and helpful, but the actual construction process was a major letdown. We were initially told the house would be move-in ready in September, but we ended up having to move in November 1st – before the finishing work was even complete. We essentially moved into an unfinished home with several issues, including unprimed rooms and incorrectly placed vents. We had to hire our own contractors to fix these problems and bring the house up to a livable standard. What really let GBI down was their poor communication and consistently inaccurate timelines. The foreman and crew seemed stretched too thin, and our emails were frequently ignored. While we were really pleased with the work done on the deck and garage – they did a fantastic job – the entire experience with GBI was unacceptable, and we wouldn’t recommend them.

“I bought my garage from them back in 2015, and I couldn’t be happier with the whole experience. From start to finish, it was incredibly smooth – they were really accommodating during the construction process. The workers were always professional and kept the site incredibly organized and clean, and they even left my property spotless of all the construction mess. The office staff were fantastic too, always there to help me out. Honestly, it was one of the best building experiences I’ve ever had.”

Overall, I’d give GBI a solid 2 out of 5 stars. The biggest issue was the incredibly slow pace of the build and a really frustrating lack of communication throughout the process. We weren’t getting regular updates and it felt like things were moving at a snail’s pace – definitely not the quick, modular build we’d hoped for. However, we’re reasonably happy with the finished stick-built garage and attic truss itself. If you’re planning to connect the garage directly to your house, I’d strongly advise looking at other options, as GBI might not be the best choice for that type of build. They seem more suited for dropping a modular garage into your yard, but attaching it to an existing house is a riskier proposition.

I couldn’t be happier with the beautiful, well-constructed home G.B.I. built for me. It’s been a fantastic experience and I know I’ll be enjoying it for many years to come. The team was incredibly easy to work with – truly a pleasure to deal with, and I even made some great new friends along the way. I’d definitely recommend G.B.I. to anyone looking to build a new house quickly and affordably.

“I can’t recommend these guys highly enough! From beginning to end, the project was flawless. They took care of absolutely everything – from securing the necessary permits with the town to the surveying – and I honestly didn’t have to lift a finger. I was thrilled with the final result and the incredible quality of work from the whole team, especially Charlie, Mike S, Jarrod, and Leah. They were always responsive to my questions and concerns, making the entire process incredibly smooth and stress-free.”

“I really enjoyed learning about modular homes, and the salesperson was very helpful. However, by the end of our visit, it became clear that modular wasn’t the right fit for us – the prices were significantly higher than we anticipated, and frankly, much slower than a traditional stick-built home.”
-
“They were really responsive and got right to work on my project – exactly what I needed. They’re a genuinely nice team to work with.”
