  Makara truly impressed us with their work on several projects around our home. We particularly appreciated their professionalism and honesty – they consistently delivered exactly what they promised and stayed within budget. For our new Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in Montgomery County, they completely exceeded our expectations. It’s gotten fantastic reviews, and it was a fully custom build, allowing us to add features like french doors and a Murphy bed. Plus, they installed an energy-efficient heat pump. It was clear from the start that Makara is the most skilled team in the area when it comes to ADU design and installation, and their price was significantly better than other companies we contacted. We also had them renovate our entire porch and install a brand new metal roof – they expertly replaced rotten pillars and painted the whole thing, and they oversaw a full roof replacement with metal roofing. They even replaced a faulty panel without charging us a dime! Overall, Makara has a fantastic team, and we’ve genuinely enjoyed working with them.   Makara was absolutely fantastic – we couldn’t have asked for a better builder. From the initial design stages all the way through to construction, they were incredibly responsive and collaborative. Getting the building permits was a huge challenge, and they handled everything with professionalism and expertise. The whole team was wonderful, always approachable and open to our ideas. Their foreman was particularly amazing. The quality of their work and the materials they chose were consistently outstanding, and they were just a really pleasant and kind group to work with. We stayed on budget, aside from a few last-minute additions, and the project finished on time, considering the complexities of the permit process. Honestly, if I were to build another ADU, I wouldn’t hesitate to use Makara again. report abuse

  Working with Makara to build our ADU was an absolutely fantastic experience. From start to finish, they took incredible care and attention to detail. The whole process, from design to completion, took about four months – the permitting process itself took around three to four months. We really appreciated being able to design the ADU exactly how we wanted, down to the placement of the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room. They seamlessly handled all the complicated aspects like permits, inspections, and ordering materials, which gave us so much peace of mind. We were particularly thrilled with the custom features we added, like the built-in bookshelves and Murphy bed, which really maximized the space. The team was so receptive to our ideas, even the more unique ones, such as connecting the ADU to our deck with a beautiful stone pathway and retaining wall. They went above and beyond to ensure we got exactly what we wanted, including things like dimmer switches and timers. The crew was incredibly friendly, considerate, and skilled – they really paid attention to detail, and they kept the site spotless every day. If anything needed tweaking, they fixed it promptly, usually the next day. We wholeheartedly recommend Makara and would definitely work with them again. If you’re considering an ADU, we’d say really think through your vision from the beginning – knowing exactly where you want it, any additions like decking or pathways – and be sure to clarify all costs with the builder upfront.   “I contacted Makara Builders through a referral, and while the initial conversation seemed promising, the entire experience was incredibly frustrating. Brian, the representative, was slow to respond, initially taking nearly a week to get back to me after my first contact. He then didn’t return my follow-up email until we scheduled a call. When he finally did come out for a quote, he was an hour late and called to let me know. He didn’t take any measurements, didn’t offer any helpful suggestions or ideas, and just kept saying it was a “small” job. After that, communication completely stopped. It took over two weeks to get a quote of $23,000, and even then, Brian was unresponsive and difficult to reach. He only responded to one of my questions about permits and seemed annoyed by my inquiries. It felt like he was just ignoring me. He essentially disappeared. Honestly, the whole thing felt incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful. I was embarrassed for them. I’m sharing this experience because it’s important to me to support businesses that value their clients. I’d have appreciated a more proactive and communicative approach, and I certainly wouldn't have been treated like a bother. I won’t be recommending Makara Builders, and I’ll be letting my neighbor know about this experience.” report abuse
