I was really disappointed with my experience at today’s Easter event. We arrived about an hour and a half after it started and were hoping to get waffles, but we were told they were completely sold out and weren’t making any more. Honestly, I didn’t think it would take that long to make waffles. Later, when the kids were given gift bags, it felt very unfair that my son didn’t get one. We’d been there for a good while, and it seemed like the families who arrived later were prioritized. It was frustrating that he was essentially turned down, especially considering he’s of African American and Latino descent. While I understand the need to manage things, it just didn’t feel fair. It was a lovely event overall, and I saw other families enjoying themselves, but this experience left a really bad taste. It’s the kind of thing you shouldn't have to deal with, and I won’t be returning to future events. report abuse

Overall, the venue itself is lovely, but unfortunately, our experience was incredibly disappointing and stressful. Marlene, the Hall Manager, created a truly uncomfortable atmosphere throughout our son’s 5th birthday celebration. She constantly hovered, making unsolicited and frankly rude comments to our guests, and it really disrupted our family and friends’ enjoyment. Things escalated when she started criticizing our decorations – telling us we were making too much noise blowing up balloons – and then, unbelievably, taking our table when hers was missing. It felt like she was deliberately trying to make things difficult. Hearing her say “the party is already over” and that we wouldn’t get our deposit back was particularly upsetting. We understand that she has a role in overseeing events, but her behavior was unacceptable. It felt intrusive and disrespectful. We were celebrating a special occasion with family and friends, and her constant negativity completely overshadowed the joy of the day. Honestly, if you're planning a family event with friends, we wouldn’t recommend booking here – the guest experience is just too unpredictable and uncomfortable. report abuse

I was so disappointed with my experience hosting my son’s birthday party at this venue. The hall manager, Marlene, was incredibly difficult to work with and made the whole evening a stressful and unpleasant one. She seemed to find fault with absolutely everything – from the noise of the balloon pump to the number of people parking, and even the food we brought. Honestly, she was constantly making negative comments and creating a really uncomfortable atmosphere for both my family and our guests. There were several concerning incidents, including her recklessly throwing things, attempting to keep our security deposit, and disrupting the music. The most upsetting thing was how she treated our elderly guests, making them stand up and collect chairs – it was completely unnecessary and incredibly disrespectful. Because of Marlene’s behavior, it was a genuinely difficult time, and I wouldn't recommend this venue to anyone looking to host an event. report abuse

I’m really disappointed with my experience hosting my 40th birthday celebration at this venue. I’m only giving it two stars because of the venue itself, which was beautiful. However, the management – specifically the Event Manager, Marlene, and the Event Coordinator – were incredibly unprofessional and, frankly, made the entire planning process stressful and uncomfortable. Marlene repeatedly handled communication in a way that felt deeply unethical. For example, she sent me an email detailing a liquor license arrangement, including information about another client’s significantly lower rate, using that client’s details. It felt like a breach of privacy and a deceptive tactic. Then, she responded to a mass email intended only for me, reminding me of my balance – it felt like she was deliberately trying to make me feel anxious. Adding to this, Marlene discussed my financial arrangements with the event designer in front of her, assuming a level of familiarity that wasn’t there. It was completely inappropriate and made me feel very uneasy. On the night of the event, the Event Coordinator provided inaccurate information, telling Marlene that we were asked to stop the music at midnight, which wasn't true. This created unnecessary confusion and stress. Ultimately, because we were 30 minutes late departing, we lost our entire deposit. When I tried to explain the situation to Marlene, she dismissed my concerns. Despite complimenting the venue's transformation, her lack of concern was a final disappointment. I won't be returning and I strongly advise others to exercise extreme caution when considering this venue for any event – their lack of integrity is a serious concern. report abuse

The Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department was a fantastic venue for our cake decorating class! The space is really impressive, and we were able to comfortably fit our group of 14 participants in the kitchen. The demonstrator was great too. I’d definitely recommend it for any kind of event – parties, showers, or even a wedding! report abuse

I just want to express how incredibly grateful I am for the Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department. This month has been a really challenging time for my family – I had back surgery and was recovering at my sister-in-law’s house when I unfortunately fell a couple of times. Thankfully, the volunteer department was always there to help me up. It happened again two weeks later, and then my husband had a heart attack while we were both recovering from serious health issues. I even fell twice in one day! Seriously, every time I needed assistance, the Maryland City Volunteer Department rushed to my rescue. Thank you so much for your dedication and service – you’re a lifesaver! report abuse

“We absolutely loved hosting our wedding reception at the MCVFD. They were so reasonably priced and the staff were fantastic – really friendly and went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. They even got into the Halloween theme with us, which made it such a fun night! We’d definitely consider them again for future events.” report abuse
