Overall, it was a nice Sunday dinner, though a bit of a mixed experience. I hadn’t been to this fundraiser in a couple of years, and I was really looking forward to it. The service was fantastic – the servers were incredibly attentive, keeping our drinks full and our plates cleared promptly. All the sides were really good – the stewed tomatoes, slaw, potato salad, peas, biscuits, and fried chicken were all tasty. I’d had better oyster fritters at this dinner in the past, though. The first two were good, but the others seemed to have more batter than oyster, which was disappointing considering this is a fundraiser. It’s a shame to see the quality slip a little. The desserts were plentiful and delicious, which was a great bonus. Honestly, the biggest reason I stopped coming was the increase in price – going from $16 to $18 is a significant jump. While I understand costs go up, it’s tough to justify when the quality of a key dish, like the oyster fritter, suffers. You really can’t build a business on customer dissatisfaction, and it’s a reminder that keeping your regulars happy is crucial. I’m hoping for a more bountiful selection of oysters next time!

Seriously, you *have* to try the barbecued chicken at Linkwood Salem VFC – it’s fantastic! And their macaroni salad is seriously stellar. Definitely mark your calendar for their next event!

“It’s wonderful to see such a dedicated group! Their weekend BBQs and suppers really bring the community together and everyone seems to enjoy the delicious food. The Greater Cooks and Lady’s Auxiliary are truly exceptional – second to none, really. I’m excited to hear they’re planning on restarting soon – looking forward to seeing you all!” – Bobby

“We had a really lovely evening – the chicken was fantastic and the volunteers were absolutely wonderful. My wife especially raved about the stewed tomatoes!”

I was really frustrated with my visit on July 17th. I drove 80 miles specifically to get chicken, but when I arrived, the restaurant was completely closed. I’d even checked your website on Friday to confirm hours, and it still listed you as open – it’s quite disappointing that this wasn’t the case.

“The barbecue chicken is really special – they only do it about once a month on Fridays, starting around 10 a.m. It’s incredibly popular, so if you want to get some, you should definitely come early, as it tends to sell out pretty quickly and you’ll have to wait a whole month for the next one.”

It’s wonderful to see that the event was consistently enjoyable – everyone seemed to really appreciate it! And it's fantastic that the volunteers were so engaged and enthusiastic.
