Working with Studio Insitu Architects, led by Tim Hess, was an absolutely fantastic experience. They took my initial, somewhat rough idea – sketched out in Adobe Illustrator – and transformed it into something truly stunning. From the very beginning, they listened intently, really got to know us, and then brought their own creative flair to the project. There are a few specific examples that really illustrate their skill and thoughtfulness. For instance, they casually suggested adding a back deck during one of the design phases, and while I initially just said “sure,” it completely elevated the whole space. It was amazing to see their vision come to life, and I honestly couldn’t have imagined it myself! Another time, they completely revitalized a poorly designed office space by suggesting a classic potbelly stove – a brilliant, last-minute solution that instantly transformed the room. And, after we hit a snag with our initial floor design ideas, Tim came up with this incredible floor design out of nowhere, just two days after our other attempts didn’t work. Throughout the entire project, which was expertly handled by Minuteman Building & Preservation, Studio Insitu’s flexibility and talent were invaluable. We’re so grateful for their expertise and would absolutely hire them again – in fact, we wish we could!

“Tim and his team were absolutely fantastic to work with, especially given the challenging circumstances of building this unique addition during the pandemic. They were incredibly creative and resourceful, and they truly listened to and considered every single one of our ideas, from the big design concepts to the smallest details like paint colors. It was a genuine collaboration, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the final result – Studio InSitu played a huge role in making it all happen. I wholeheartedly recommend them without any hesitation.”

Tim and the team at Studio InSitu were absolutely fantastic to work with during our recent renovation of our mountain home in the Delaware River Valley. From the moment we contacted them, we knew they understood our vision for the project – transforming our “shack” into a beautiful and functional space that really fit with the stunning natural surroundings and the area’s history. They listened carefully to our ideas and created a design that was both gorgeous and incredibly comfortable. We’re so thrilled with the final result!

“We’re absolutely thrilled with our new salon! Back in 2019, we knew it was time for a change and decided to relocate. From the very first meeting with Tim, it was clear he completely understood the look and feel we were going for – something eco-friendly and stylish, but without being overly formal. Working with Studio Insitu was a fantastic experience; they really brought our vision to life. We moved in July 2021 and we’re still completely in love with the design and how it functions – especially the living plants walls! It’s truly our dream salon.”

Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Tim and the team at Studio InSitu. Adding a small space to our 300-year-old colonial was a really delicate process – we wanted to honor its history while also making it feel like home. Tim really understood what we were going for, and his vision was exactly what we’d been hoping for. It’s incredibly tricky to blend old and new construction seamlessly, especially with a house that’s been around for so long! But Tim and his team were so meticulous, listening carefully to our ideas and bringing in a fantastic group of skilled subcontractors. They were there for us throughout the entire project, and we’re absolutely thrilled with the finished living space. We’ve already told everyone we know about Studio InSitu – they were fantastic!

“We absolutely loved working with the InSitu team! They completely transformed our bathroom, and we’re so thrilled with the beautiful new space they created. Honestly, we couldn't have done it without their expertise – they brought so many valuable design insights to the table that we simply wouldn’t have thought of on our own. They were fantastic at quickly sketching out ideas and helping us visualize the space, and they even put together a solid materials list for our contractor. It’s clear they have a great understanding of the local area, as many of their projects are in Maynard and the surrounding towns.”

“Working with Tim and the InSitu team on this project has been fantastic – they’ve been a true pleasure to collaborate with, and I’m really looking forward to potentially working with them again. Their commitment to quality and ability to handle complex situations is incredibly valuable, and I was particularly impressed by how they seamlessly blended historical design with a modern, environmentally conscious approach.”

Tim from InSitu did an absolutely fantastic job with the design review for the building next door. Honestly, I was really dreading seeing it go up, but he completely turned things around. He took such a thorough approach, really digging into the bylaws and considering the architectural style, and his ideas were brilliant. The finished building is beautiful and fits in perfectly with the neighborhood. He was also fantastic at explaining everything clearly – he could talk to both myself and the developer in a way that was easy to understand. I’m so grateful for his work on this project, and I’d definitely recommend him to anyone needing an architect’s expertise.

I’m consistently impressed with the work Tim and his team at In Situ have done to enhance our town of Maynard. They’ve really transformed spaces, from the fantastic outdoor patio at El Huipil – which is now a perfect spot for relaxing – to the wonderful new restaurant, Ázucar. What I appreciate most is their ability to blend modern design with respect for Maynard’s history. They have a real eye for detail and create spaces that are both beautiful and inviting. I wholeheartedly recommend In Situ for any architectural design project.
