  I just wanted to say how incredibly impressed I was with my experience at this Thompson Tractor/Cat location. Specifically, Skyler was fantastic – truly going above and beyond to help someone new to the excavation industry like myself. They were so attentive, enthusiastic, professional, and genuinely personable; it was a breath of fresh air compared to other places I’ve dealt with.   I’m incredibly frustrated with my experience at Thompson Cat. I brought my Peterbilt in for an alignment check after installing new springs, specifically asking them not to touch the rear axles or bend them. However, when I picked it up six hours later, they told me their techs had bent my axle and added shims to the rear – completely against my instructions. As soon as I drove the truck off the lot, it started pulling severely to the right. I’ve wasted a whole weekend dealing with this, and things only got worse. I ended up driving over 1500 miles before I noticed the tires were wearing down terribly. I contacted Tim at Thompson Cat, but he insisted on me driving out of my way to Oxford for them to recheck the alignment, which I didn't trust. I took the truck to Big Moe in Birmingham – a really reputable shop – and they confirmed the alignment was way off. They corrected it, and thankfully, it was back in specs. Thompson Cat ended up covering the bill, but this is just the beginning of the problems. Now, all my tires are showing a consistent wear pattern, and I had to replace all eight of them – they were nearly brand new! They were at least 85% tread when I brought the truck in. I've already lost thousands of dollars, and I’m letting other truckers know to avoid Thompson Cat – they don’t stand behind their work, and it’s the worst shop I’ve ever dealt with. I’m now consulting with a lawyer about a potential lawsuit. report abuse

  I was really impressed with Thompson Tractor. I had a serious brake issue on my Ford Transit while I was on a delivery run, and they stepped up immediately. Despite being incredibly busy, Tim and Ben took the time to diagnose the problem – it turned out to be a neglected brake job from another shop – and replaced all four brakes, including a new caliper. They got my truck back to me in just a day and a half! What really surprised me was the fair price; I honestly expected to pay a lot more. Thompson Tractor is definitely the place I’d go if I’m ever in the area needing work done – they’re skilled, friendly, and genuinely appreciate their customers. report abuse

  Overall, I had a fantastic experience renting the tracked trencher for a day. The rental process itself was incredibly smooth and the staff were absolutely amazing – so helpful and friendly, which made a huge difference. They went above and beyond when I struggled backing my utility trailer (even with my CDL!), taking care of everything for me without making me feel like I was bothering them. The equipment was in excellent condition, though it did take a few extra minutes to get a thorough inspection due to the previous customer. Honestly, I appreciated that extra attention to detail and their commitment to ensuring I got a reliable machine. It cost around $235 for the day, and while I might have gone for a half-day next time due to my inexperience, the prices were fair.
