  “We deeply regret hiring Van Oyen to build our home. From the very beginning, we experienced a consistent lack of quality and attention to detail. Despite numerous reports of errors – including a great room window installed backward causing water damage – they struggled to address the problems, taking months to rectify even simple issues. The work was sloppy, with noticeable carpentry and paint defects, and the house remains drafty and leaky. As time went on, it became clear that Van Oyen prioritized speed over quality, and we've been dealing with ongoing issues and frustrations for the past two years. While Jill was a genuinely pleasant and helpful member of the team during the initial planning stages, the final product fell far short of our expectations and what was advertised. Unfortunately, their approach became increasingly difficult. Joe repeatedly disregarded our concerns, and even when repairs were scheduled, they were often incomplete or poorly executed. Their warranty process was incredibly disorganized and unresponsive. More concerningly, Joe attempted to intimidate us into removing our negative review with threats of a gag contract. This felt like an illegal and unacceptable tactic, and ultimately, our repair issues remain unresolved. We strongly advise anyone considering Van Oyen to proceed with extreme caution – you definitely get what you pay for, and in this case, it’s a significant amount of stress and unfinished work.” report abuse

  “Working with the Van Oyens was a really disappointing experience. We spent a lot of time with them upfront – they were friendly and helpful during our initial meetings and we ultimately signed a contract. However, things quickly changed once the contract was signed. We were suddenly treated as a low priority, and what started as politeness devolved into rudeness. The quality of the show homes we saw didn’t match the work we received, and we had constant issues with mistakes made by their subcontractors – including extra work that wasn't completed correctly. When we tried to address these problems, they became incredibly confrontational and disrespectful. Frankly, it felt like a series of lies and a complete disregard for our concerns. Based on our experience, and what we’ve heard from several of our neighbors in the South Lyon area, I would strongly advise anyone considering building with Van Oyen to talk to current residents. There are widespread concerns about cheap materials, inaccurate workmanship, and a warranty that’s essentially a joke. We learned the hard way – had we spoken to our neighbors sooner, we definitely would have avoided building with them.” report abuse

  We absolutely love our new home – it’s fantastic! The Van Oyen brothers worked incredibly well together, and they handled the unexpected delays caused by Covid with such professionalism. We truly appreciate Tony Van Oyen Builders making our dream a reality. report abuse
