  “We were so thrilled with the final result of our new backyard – it’s truly our dream space! We started our search after building our new home, and were faced with a lot of choices about how to handle the landscaping and pool installation. Ultimately, we decided to go with separate companies, and it was the right decision thanks to Sarah Alton and Desert Designers. From our first conversation, Sarah really listened to what we wanted, and her enthusiasm for our ideas was fantastic. The initial designs weren’t quite perfect, but she quickly reworked them until they nailed everything – from the unique pool shape to incorporating my father’s old Los Angeles Gas Street lamp and the bocci court. She was incredibly flexible and worked within our budget, even suggesting elements we hadn’t even considered. It was our first full backyard build, and we definitely underestimated the coordination required when working with two companies. There were some hiccups with communication, particularly around the rock work, but Sarah and her team were always responsive and willing to make things right. We appreciate their honesty and professionalism. While we learned a valuable lesson about the complexities of these types of projects, we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. We’re so grateful for Sarah’s vision and her crew’s hard work, and we’re looking forward to enjoying our beautiful backyard for years to come.” report abuse

  “Rob and his team truly delivered on their promise of design excellence – it was far beyond what we’d anticipated, and a huge step up from other contractors we spoke with. We did have to provide a few minor adjustments along the way, which is normal with any good project, but they were incredibly responsive and addressed everything to my complete satisfaction, resulting in a fantastic final product. And just to let you know, after the initial installation, they even came back to fix a small leak under warranty, proving their commitment to quality from start to finish – we absolutely love our new backyard!” report abuse

Cory, our designer, really listened to what I wanted for my new backyard in Buckeye, which was a small, zen-like space with a focus on attracting pollinators. He came up with a brilliant design after we discussed my ideas and he was incredibly mindful of the budget.   Overall, our experience with DD Landscaping was extremely disappointing. We initially invested over $22,000 ten years ago for a landscape redesign, and frankly, it’s been a series of ongoing problems and frustrations. From the start, there were issues with the plant selection – many of the plants they delivered weren't what we’d agreed upon, and a large number died within two years. We ended up having to learn about zones and microclimates ourselves, which should have been handled by the professionals. They also replaced a significant number of plants and trees throughout the project, and only 26 remain today. Beyond the plants, the grass repeatedly needed replacing, and we eventually discovered the correct type of grass varies depending on the area. The installation was poorly supervised, leading to numerous errors that required constant oversight and additional costs – including modifying two large areas with sprinklers. We had to be present supervising the crew every minute of every day to prevent mistakes. There were several other significant issues, including incorrect installations of hardscape elements, communication problems, and a lack of respect for our property. We even had to step in and repair work done by DD, paying another contractor to fix their mistakes. It’s clear DD didn't fully understand or execute long-term landscaping practices, and they took on more than their crew was capable of. We strongly recommend checking with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (roc.az.gov) before hiring any landscaping company. Unfortunately, our experience with DD was a constant struggle, and we wouldn’t recommend them based on our situation. report abuse

  “I still can’t believe how stunning Charlie Goodwin and his team created this backyard space back in 2020. It’s truly remarkable. The design completely transforms the view of the golf course, and the way the pavers and curves flow with the house’s stucco and Carmel color is just perfect. The walkways are especially special – so thoughtfully designed and built with different materials that really connect me to the citrus trees and the little fountain. Honestly, I just love spending time out here; it’s such a beautiful and inviting space, and it’s all thanks to Charlie’s incredible talent.” report abuse
