Overall, we were a bit apprehensive starting our garage conversion with USA Builders, having heard some worrying stories. But we’re so glad we went with them! Our project manager was fantastic – he was really easy to work with and never pressured us. While we initially thought the timeline would be tighter than it actually was, they completed the work surprisingly quickly. He was also incredibly helpful navigating the confusing city codes, and every crew was professional, hardworking, and respectful of our space. We really appreciated how responsive the office was too; they always kept us in the loop on changes and were patient in answering all of our questions. We’re extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the fantastic communication throughout the entire project. We wholeheartedly recommend USA Builders!

Overall, I’d definitely recommend this company and I would hire them again, though there were some significant challenges we faced during the project. The biggest issue stemmed from a lot of project manager turnover. Initially, the person who sold us the job was no longer involved by the time work began, and he provided inaccurate information – things he told me simply weren’t true. Then, another manager was let go mid-project, and Avi stepped in to oversee everything. This constant change caused considerable miscommunication and frustration. I want to commend Avi for his integrity. He corrected errors and covered costs when the initial representative had misled me, like when he adjusted the bill after a misunderstanding about extra cement. I also want to stress the importance of very clear contracts. It’s crucial to spell out every detail in plain English – contractors will often add extra charges if something changes, and it’s easy to get caught off guard. We ran into this with a gas line error where the construction team made a mistake, and they tried to bill us over $2,000 to fix it. We were also charged an unexpected fee for a simple tile cut needed to match the floors, and I ended up doing the work myself. Finally, because I was working with a tight budget and timeline – including a new baby arriving – I felt a lot of pressure. The initial drawings were done by hand, which caused a lot of confusion, and the sub seemed to interpret every detail as a problem. While a faster approach might have cost more, it’s clear there was a need for more straightforward communication and a more detailed contract to avoid these issues.

We were incredibly frustrated with our experience working with USA Builders, primarily due to the inconsistent and ultimately misleading approach of our sales representative, Avi. Initially, we were impressed with Avi’s apparent enthusiasm, but it quickly became clear he was more focused on increasing the cost of our project – a patio and backyard renovation – than actually fulfilling our needs. He started by pushing us towards an alumawood patio, despite our initial specifications, and then abruptly informed us that it couldn't be built at our location. We then ended up with a wood patio, significantly increasing the total cost to $16,000, and later another $8,000, with added costs for paint and another backyard section. Avi kept changing the price, locking us into agreements only to add more fees and ultimately refusing to return our deposit. It felt like a constant battle to get a fair price, and his tactics were incredibly frustrating and, frankly, dishonest. Ultimately, after wasting a huge amount of time and resources, we had to walk away from the project. We felt completely misled and taken advantage of, and we strongly advise anyone considering USA Builders to proceed with extreme caution and get a second opinion before committing to anything.
