Jon has been a fantastic structural engineer to work with on all our projects. He’s consistently professional, really responsive, and always goes above and beyond to help us out, especially given our tight deadlines. We definitely value his expertise and look forward to continuing our partnership on future projects.

I would strongly advise against hiring Cowen Associates. My experience was incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. The owner, Fred, seemed to dismiss my concerns and refused to provide basic measurements, claiming they were documented in his drawings. He then insisted it wasn't his responsibility to supply those measurements, despite the work he was being paid for. To add insult to injury, he criticized my role as the general contractor on my own project, implying I was incompetent. It was the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered.

“We hired this engineer to evaluate our roof bracings, but unfortunately, the assessment felt quite incomplete. He only observed the structure from the outside and didn’t investigate the joists in the attic – which was our primary concern. We were then billed before receiving the report, and it took six weeks to arrive. To add to the frustration, we received a second, unexpected bill without any explanation, and when I contacted him about it, I didn’t get a response. He eventually resent the unpaid bill four months later again without any clarification. Overall, his lack of thoroughness and communication was very unprofessional, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable trusting him with any major work on our home.”

“I can’t recommend Fred Cowen highly enough. I used him throughout my entire house renovation – he was always incredibly professional and got back to me quickly with his inspections and reports. A really reliable guy.”
