  “Honestly, our experience with the ROC has been incredibly disappointing. We filed two complaints and felt completely unsupported throughout the entire process. Both cases were ultimately closed, and remarkably, the contractors involved didn’t even acknowledge that any complaints had been made. Because of this, we’ve lost confidence in the ROC’s ability to protect consumers, and we won’t be pursuing contractor licensing – or relying on it – for future projects.” report abuse

  Overall, this service is a little tricky to locate, but I’ve been consistently impressed. The staff is really knowledgeable and the receptionist was fantastic – she always remembered me and was able to answer my questions quickly. I especially want to commend the caseworker; they not only provided excellent support but also went above and beyond to ensure my contractor was operating within the law. It’s super easy to check a contractor’s credentials – you can search by license number or business name – and see if they have a valid license and if there have been any past or current complaints against them.   “Our online system has the potential to be really helpful. Specifically, it should allow us to see a photo of each contractor when they apply for their license – which would be a great reassurance. I recently experienced a situation where a contractor used his nephew, who wasn’t licensed, to handle a contract, and it highlighted the importance of having this kind of verification available.” report abuse

  “It’s incredibly frustrating to receive a jar of lubricant when filing a complaint about a contractor – it feels like a completely dismissive and bizarre response. The whole system seems incredibly outdated and, frankly, ridiculous.” report abuse
